Fleur Di Lis

Sometime in December/January I got a call from my Aunt Dianne who told me that the city of New Rochelle was going to commission a public art project and that they were looking for painters.  I applied and thankfully got the gig. The assignment was to paint a fiberglass Fluer Di Lis that was provided. The subject matter is that it had to  be connected to the arts and culture.
I recruited by brother, Nicolas Sienty, who is an amazing artist and designer, to help me with the color and the design.  My idea was to represent what I consider the three muses of culture-Visual Art, Literature and Music. It's a night scene because that is when  feel most creative and it's over the city which my brother painted in an incredible silhouette.  This was a physcially really difficult surface to paint.  I primed it but if I used too much paint the paint would literally just wipe off.  It had to be built in stages.  I think if I were to do it again after priming and sanding I would do a coat of acrylic paint in white to just make sure everything sticks.  I worked on this every weekend for about five months and I'm proud of the results. I'm excited to see the work displayed and see other artists' interpretations.
