Fleur Di Lis

Sometime in December/January I got a call from my Aunt Dianne who told me that the city of New Rochelle was going to commission a public art project and that they were looking for painters.  I applied and thankfully got the gig. The assignment was to paint a fiberglass Fluer Di Lis that was provided. The subject matter is that it had to  be connected to the arts and culture.
I recruited by brother, Nicolas Sienty, who is an amazing artist and designer, to help me with the color and the design.  My idea was to represent what I consider the three muses of culture-Visual Art, Literature and Music. It's a night scene because that is when  feel most creative and it's over the city which my brother painted in an incredible silhouette.  This was a physcially really difficult surface to paint.  I primed it but if I used too much paint the paint would literally just wipe off.  It had to be built in stages.  I think if I were to do it again after priming and sanding I would do a coat of acrylic paint in white to just make sure everything sticks.  I worked on this every weekend for about five months and I'm proud of the results. I'm excited to see the work displayed and see other artists' interpretations.

SCULPTURE 2014

It's has been a ridiculously long time since I've posted anything.  A lot has happened in my life since my last post years ago.  I've realized that while I love creating art and telling stories I'm pretty bad at informing people as to what I'm up to.  Here's to hopefully the first step to remedy that.  Anyways the first post is my sculpture from this year's class show.  I was way too slow sculpting this but even though it's rough I'm still pretty proud of it.  I actually got an honorable mention at the class show which was really great and something I wasn't expecting.  One thing I have to say is that if you ever get the chance to take a class or workshop with Rhoda Sherbell, or if you ever  get to see her work...GO! I've been taking Rhoda's class at the Art Student's League in NY for four years and she is one of the most amazing teachers and one of the the kindest ladies I know! I am so lucky to have her as a teacher and I'm so lucky to be able to go to class with some of the nicest, most talented people anyone could ask for.

Sculputre

So it's been a long time. A lot has changed in my life and it's been hard to keep up. I took a sculpture class and for the last 9 months I've felt like it's a medium I really want to get good at but feel as though I've been failing in it. Then a couple of weeks ago we had a class show-and at the last minute with a lot of help from friends in the class and the help of my teacher-something came out that for me was unexpected. I didn't really decide I liked it until I saw it in my class show-and now I'm really proud of it-though I feel that this piece largely is me but a result of collaboration. Sometimes after a lot of frustration and effort and with some help, something comes together. It wasn't about the message or the story, it was simply tryng to make something for a show and having the pieces fall into place with some great guidance. After the class show in a random encounter, I was given the opporunity (thank you Lisa!) to put in another show at the National Arts Club. Being a comic book guy I never thought that I would be in a show-but it's really cool and I"m really proud. This post is rambling and touching on a lot of thoughts so I just want to say Thanks to Rhoda Sherbell, Lisa Ferber, Chris Cafferelli, my classmates and I hope you like the piece.

Red Hot Halloween Flyer

Hi everyone. So I am TOTALLY Sucking at posting. My band was supposed to play a Halloween show but it got canceled. Needless to say I made the flyer before it go cancelled. Honestly it's a quick, simple one but I think it does it's job. I was happy about how my lettering came out.
Recently I've been doing a lot more drafts and using a lot more tracing paper in my drawing process. Anyways hope you guys like it. I'll try to be better about posting next week.

NY Comic Con

Hey everyone. So it's been awhile. I keep on telling myself that I have to kick myself in the ass and post more-as well as post some stuff on Deviant Art. It's always hard to figure out what to post. Anyways last week was NY Comic Con. I shared a table with Fred Haynes who's an awesome artist that all of you should check out. I was selling my book "Beside the Still Water" as well as some prints. It was a bit nerve-wracking before the con because this is the first time I've published my own book without anybody else from the Cave Drawing Ink Crew and it's the first time I've used my real name on a book. That said-it was an AMAZING experience that I would love to do again! Thank you to everyone who made their way to my table to look at artwork and talk, and to all the artists around me in artist alley who were all very talented and very giving of their time.
I'm posting a commission I did of Silver Surfer from the con that I liked. I swear I'll post more soon.
Thanks!

Frankenstein's Monster

So this is a piece I recently did for a proposal. I tried to follow Shelly's interpretation (although I do love Jack Pierce's version and couldn't even hope to compare or get close enough to Bernie Wrightson's.) So for this piece first I did a stuctural drawing toned it using payne's gray watercolor. From there I put a thin layer of gesso which wiped out all of the detail and then started using a mix of acrylic paint, graphite, whie conte and white out. Then finally I boosted the contrast in photoshop. Hope you guys like it.

Self Portrait

I did some self portraits a couple of weeks ago for a friend's website. It's been a long time and I"m a little rusty on it...I like the blue one.
